Time Waste Management & Picture Garden present:

do aliens perceive kerning?
a show with Anna Cruz & Adam Lavigne
November 19th @ 7pm and November 21st @ 7pm

"Enlightened mosquitos experience cosmic ennui as they drink the blood of gummy worms and consider their place in the universe. Boys, girls, and minor gods are presented alongside borrowed works of high Modernism.

Anna Cruz and Adam Lavigne speak the same language. Graphite lines form text and pictures in messy paragraphs of pictorial English. With collage, Cruz and Lavigne’s works explore formats of physical media after the influence of social media. Both place writing and representation on equal footing. Fragments of text are embedded within pictorial groupings to allude to parallel stories, humor pervades. Drawn line and disparate images are placed side by side to suggest story arcs too personal to explicitly state.

Anna Cruz’ drawings satirically present bored looking boys and girls alongside flowers and potted plants with a stunning subconscious clarity. She builds up thousands of faint marks into dense images of banality and rapture.

Lavigne uses undiluted pigments and toner transfer with a casual eloquence. His experimental works of resin and collage break down the distinction between image and object (and sometimes lunch).

The language they are developing is still in flux. Subsequent works build upon the last to form grammars individual to each artist. How do you indent a drawing?" -Paul Finch
