Embodiment
Presented by Agencies & hosted by Time Waste Management

Evening Receptions:

Anarchy or assimilation; the singularity or the singular; simians or cyborgs? As strategies for activist movements and for surviving embodied life, both spatiality and transcendence ask us to give up something for another–they pose a dichotomy between the interior and the exterior, a choice to engage with bounded materiality or to reinvent bodily imaginaries.

As selves, are bodies livable?

For the third iteration of AGENCIES, performance, digital media, spoken word, sculpture, and two-dimensional works from fifteen international artists and poets contribute to a discourse of female embodiment in conversation with other dimensions of social identity like race, ability, age, and health.

AGENCIES is an arts exhibit and zine put on view and published semiannually in Orlando, FL. Emphasizing the role of collaborative work and women’s collectives in the feminist art movement, exhibition making, and creative activism of the past four decades–while highlighting the intersectional values of contemporary activist-progressives–AGENCIES aims to encourage the growth of a community emboldened to advance social change by empowering artists, authors, readers, and viewers with an interest to combat oppressive cultures.

Full-color catalogue-zines will be available for sale along a sliding scale at the exhibit and afterwards online.

Tess Bonacci will perform on Thursday, May 12 & Saturday, May 14 at 8 & 9 p.m. Please arrive at those times as the duration of this performance is brief.

We regret to note that the gallery space is located upstairs and is not wheelchair accessible. We are dedicated to hosting this event in a fully accessible space in the future.

Exhibition is free. Donations to the space are appreciated!
